As I sat down on the couch at 8:59 p.m. with a glass of wine in hand, I put my feet up, looked at Bry and said, "this was like the most perfect day ever." And it was, so that's not even an exaggeration. After a few weekends of having jam packed weekend plans or traveling, it was nice to wake up, in the comfort of my own bed, with no agenda, and the sun shining.
It all started with "sleeping in". Which for us means being in bed past 8:30 a.m. Because honestly, I didn't believe it would happen to me, but when you get older, your body just doesn't want to stay asleep any longer even if your mind is begging it to.
We had coffee on our patio together and I declared it a cell phone-free zone. So we actually had to like, make conversation for 15 minutes. Then we went inside and lounged on the couch and watched some movies. On commercial breaks I would get up and check on the ice cream that was in full swing in our ice cream maker. This weekend I made a cherry version with dark chocolate chunks and a vanilla with heath bar.
After an acceptable amount of lounging we decided that the day was too beautiful to pass up. So we headed over to Forbidden Drive in Wissahickon Valley Park. Which is not actually forbidden, so it's less rebellious than it sounds.
We met a bunny friend along the way. He had an adorable little cotton tail which cannot be seen in this here photo. But he was quite the little risk-taker and let us get close enough to snap a photo.
BryGuy is so happy to be soaking in the nature.
Queen of the forest or idiot sitting in a fire pit? You be the judge.
Who would've thought that while soaking up the nature we'd stumble upon a little house with a cafe, call The Cedars House Cafe. The place was cute, but I think they were a little overwhelmed by the amount of business they received that day because they were out of a few things. Like bananas... wtf. Just kidding, it's not that big of a deal.
We replenished ourselves with banana-less smoothies and then kept on walking.
This deer scared the crap out of us. It was coming down the hill and not trying to be quiet. Bry thought we were being attacked my mountain lions.
After our adventure in the woods, we stopped by the supermarket and picked up a few things for dinner preparations and most importantly, wine! While Bry handled the fish preparations (recipe available here, courtesy of Food & Wine), I whipped up some appetizers, including bruschetta with homemade ricotta cheese (recipe and instructions while be posted shortly), and some delicious brie with pears. I also made a salad and quinoa to go with our grilled branzini.
After dinner, we curled up on the couch with some homemade ice cream and a glass of wine (perfect pairing). We switched over to the Discover Channel for the best week on television ever. SHARK WEEK!!! Actually, I was mildly disappointed by the Megalodon special, it all seemed a little silly to me. But I'll be tuning in for the rest of the week. duh.
So folks? How was your weekend? Did you do anything fun. What did you think of the Shark Week kick-off?!? TELL ME EVERYTHING.
Wow those fish look like something the sharks from shark week would really enjoy!
